This year, Mattel's philanthropic programs and the Mattel Children's Foundation are relaunching our activities that benefit children in need. This exciting opportunity has allowed us to rethink our programs, and partnerships to provide the most impact to the greatest number of children around the world, every day.
Moving forward, our philanthropy programs in 2005 and beyond will focus on serving children in need worldwide and bringing joy to children.
Our 2005 priorities are:
- LEARNING – Increasing access to education and promoting literacy
- HEALTH – Supporting the health and physical well-being of children
- GIRLS EMPOWERMENT – Promoting self-esteem in girls
- JOY – Bringing joy to children globally
Partnerships
To achieve these priorities, the Mattel Children's Foundation has embarked on new signature partnerships with leading charitable organizations, including Special Olympics, Save The Children, Children Affected By AIDS Foundation (CAAF) and the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI). In addition, the Foundation will continue to support the Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA, many activities and volunteer opportunities throughout each year.
Grantmaking
The Mattel Children's Foundation has streamlined its domestic grantmaking process by offering an online application for charitable organizations across the U.S. in alignment with philanthropic priorities. Eligible organizations serving children will be able to apply for funds of up to $25,000. In addition, nonprofit partners with Mattel domestic offices and facilities may be eligible for smaller grants at the recommendation of the Mattel facility.
And for the first time, the Foundation has expanded its grantmaking beyond the U.S. borders with our International Grantmaking Program. Mattel offices around the world will be able to recommend Foundation grants for charities serving their local communities and children in need.
Employees
The Mattel Children's Foundation is also continuing its support of Mattel employees' volunteer efforts and community involvement through matching gifts, scholarships and local community grants.
Toy Donations
Each year, Mattel donates over one million toys to thousands of non-profit organizations across the U.S. and globally, from New York to New Delhi, and everywhere in between. Sharing our success with children is not just a holiday effort at Mattel -- it is a year-round, global mission.
