Mattel Children's Foundation
In addition to Mattel's corporate philanthropic initiatives, Mattel's brands also strive
to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children through cause marketing campaigns. Mattel's brands which are involved in community service are:

Barbie®
In 2002, the Barbie brand debuted a worldwide cause-related program called
"Barbie Cares Supporting Children in the Arts™" dedicated to supporting arts education for children. This program, made possible with over $2 million donated
by Mattel to the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), includes a celebrity public service announcement (PSA) campaign, an Arts Teacher of the Year Search, and
the creation of innovative, relevant products that expose girls to the wonderful world of arts education and creative exploration.

In 2004, Barbie Princess and the Pauper is also a proud sponsor of St. Jude's Thanks and Giving program.  This national program was created to benefit St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital -- the world's epicenter of pediatric medical research founded by entertainer Danny Thomas.

Fisher-Price®
Fisher-Price is committed to the communities surrounding its headquarters in East Aurora, New York. Over the years, Fisher-Price has supported initiatives ranging from playgrounds, music and arts appreciation, education, to children's hospitals. Specifically, Fisher-Price and its employees have given their energy, time and financial support to the following:
  • Development, design and installation of 17 playgrounds in Western New York.
  • Funding of the “Childcare Space” at EPIC's (Every Person Influences Children) new National Center for Parenting and Character Development.
  • Support of the Buffalo Philharmonic by sponsoring children's concerts with pre- and post-concert programs and school-based educational programs that offer music to inner-city students and low-income schools.
  • Sponsorship of the annual children's holiday show staged by Theatre of Youth (TOY), the region's only full-time professional theatre in upstate New York dedicated to young audiences.
  • Creation of a family center at Buffalo's Women's and Children's Hospital for families to relax while children receive care at the hospital, as well as renovation of the main lobby and grants to the hospital for updated equipment.
  • Camperships for first-time campers at Cradle Beach Camp, which has served disabled and disadvantaged children in Western New York since 1888.
  • Support of learning materials for the school libraries in Buffalo's 14 Early Childhood Centers (grades PreK-3) in the Buffalo Public Schools.

American Girl®
American Girl, located near Madison, Wisconsin, has a longstanding reputation as a good corporate citizen locally and nationally, which has been achieved through a variety of philanthropic programs designed to benefit children. These include The American Girl Fashion Show, a fund-raising program hosted by nonprofit organizations that leverage the widespread appeal of the American Girl brand to help raise more than $8 million for children's charities around the nation.

In addition, each year American Girl donates its second and returned merchandise to the Madison Children's Museum in Madison, Wisconsin, whose volunteers refurbish product for an Annual Benefit Sale held in July. Through American Girl's contribution and the efforts of these volunteers, more than $1 million is raised annually. A portion of the proceeds is then redistributed into the community through the American Girl's Fund for Children (www.madisoncommunityfoundation.org). Contributions to the fund have supported the Madison Civic Center's Performing Arts Series for Children, Aldo Leopold Nature Center, the Madison Ballet, and hundreds of other arts, cultural and environmental programs for children in Dane County, Wisconsin. In addition, American Girl has donated several million dollars' worth of children's clothing through Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) and since 1992, has generously invested in Wisconsin's United Way campaigns in those areas where its employees live, work and play.

Hot Wheels®
Hot Wheels shows its support for the community through fund-raising for local charities at its annual Hot Wheels convention. Each year, a charity is designated to receive funds, and in both 2003 and 2004, the Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA was selected. A special collectors-edition car was created with the proceeds benefiting the Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA. In addition, collectors attending the Hot Wheels convention in 2004 raised almost $75,000 to directly support children in need at the Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA.
