Mattel PlayBack

Mattel PlayBack is a new toy takeback pilot program that will enable families to extend the life of their Mattel toys once they are done playing with them.
The new program is designed to recover and reuse valuable materials found in Mattel toys for future Mattel products, keeping toys out of the landfill.

Play It Forward

In 2020, Mattel said thank you to our heroes on the front lines, through play. #ThankYouHeroes
Our Play it Forward program will continue to leverage our iconic brands to give back to communities in need. Check back soon to learn more.

About Mattel Playroom

As a toy company, we love to make the things that make kids smile. Behind all of the awesome toys and amazing games is a deep understanding and respect for the power of play, especially when things are in flux for kids. The power to teach, to grow and to laugh – that’s what keeps us connected.
Now, more than ever, taking time to play is not just ok, it’s essential. Our kids need it and so do we. It relaxes and reassures us; it connects us and it’s fun. As we shift to work and play from home, the ability to focus and manage our time is more challenging than ever. That’s why we’re building the Mattel Playroom. A virtual, singular source of play and hope for parents and caregivers. Activities, expert advice, games and content from all of our amazing brands will now be available in one place.
Stay connected, keep laughing and #KeepPlaying.

Our Impact

The Mattel Children's Foundation has focused on one major objective: Improving the lives of children in need. During this time of uncertainty, we continue to support our philanthropic partners and look for additional ways to help our community and give back in any way that we can through play.
  • Tutoring and Mentoring

Mattel has joined the coalition for READY SET, a national tutor, mentor and service recruitment campaign designed to meet the needs of American students who have suffered learning and relational losses as a result of the Covid 19 Pandemic.
READY SET is a national partnership with CAA Foundation, VolunteerMatch, AmeriCorps, Step Up Tutoring, and MENTOR, among other corporate and philanthropic partners to help students across America to learn and realize their full potential.

  • Homelessness Support

Mattel employees came together virtually to pack play and comfort kits to help unhoused neighbors in Los Angeles make it home this summer. Currently, PATH is seeking volunteers to help chefs serve hundreds of hot meals and volunteer movers are physically moving individuals and families into their new homes. Remotely, volunteers are assembling welcome home kits which are later presented on move in day.

  • UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital

Through its collaboration with UCLA Health, the Mattel Children’s Foundation supports the health of children and works to create a nurturing, compassionate environment for those undergoing medical care through both financial and in-kind support.
